Community Club Leaders Message:

Hello Jamul Chaparros!

We hope that you are all nice and dry this weekend during this lull between storms!

4-H events will soon start ramping up!  The next event on our calendar is Presentation Day on February 25th at the Jamul Community Church. This is an event appropriate for all ages. Please consider participating or at least coming to support your fellow club members. If you have questions, please reach out to Kelli or Wendy or Nira, our Oratory Project leader. Details on this event will soon follow in an e-mail.

Area V (5) Field Day is scheduled for March 4th. This event is typically held in Lakeside and takes place in the morning. This is great practice for all of our members enrolled in animal projects. It is a low-pressure environment for our members to practice. As we get information, we will forward it to you.

Art and Design Day is scheduled for March 11th. This is another fun day with divisions appropriate for all members. The entry packet will be available soon with entry deadline at the end of February.

The Eastern San Diego County Junior Fair BBQ and Auction are March 19th. Our club typically sponsors a bake sale. Please consider baking and/or selling baked goods.  We are also expected to donate a basket to the auction. Because we have items left over from our last basket, a coffee and tea theme, we will collect similar items. Please consider bringing something appropriate for the basket to our next two meetings.

Our next unit meeting will provide information on all of these events.

See you at our next Unit Meeting, Tuesday, February 14th at 6:30pm at the Jamul Primary School.

Wendy and Kelli

President’s Message

I hope that everyone is managing to keep all of their animals dry and safe.  We’ve been really busy trying to keep up with all the damage from the storms.  Please remember to read the emails from the club and the county 4-H office because things are going to start getting busy with 4-H.  This is the best and most exciting time of the year and I would hate for anyone to miss out!

Natalie

4-H County Presentation Day

After you qualify at your local 4-H Area Presentation Day, we hope you will join us for 4-H County Presentation Day on March 18th at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, 6628 Santa Isabel St., Carlsbad.

Or just come out to volunteer and learn more about our awesome 4h public speaking program.  Remember, you must first attend an Area Presentation Day event to qualify for County Presentation Day.

Computer and Website Design Project

The Computer and Website Design Project meeting was held Sunday, January 15 at the project leader’s house.  The meeting started with updating the date of the next Unit Meeting and adding the pictures taken at the January Unit Meeting.  The Korns and the Clarks sent pictures of last year’s activities, which were added to the Photos of the Month.  These photos include those taken at Bates Nut Farm, Presentation Day, Eastern San Diego County Fair, and San Diego Fair.  One of the files was a movie, which we learned how to convert to a jpg picture and crop it.  The Area 5 Presentation Day flyer and entry form was scanned and added to the club website, and the club Web Calendar was updated with the latest information.  We are adding prior year’s Acornicle Newsletters to the Acornicle Newsletter Archives so our members and leaders can see what activities the club has done in the past.  The next project meeting will be February 19.  If you are interested in the project, send an email to jamul4h@gmail.com.

Kudos Corner:  We know that our 4-Hers are busy and successful outside of 4-H as well! Please send us items that you would like to share with our group and we will include them in our Kudos Corner.  Got straight As on a report card?  Are you working towards Boy Scout or Girl Scout badges?  Did your sports team do well this weekend?  4-H is all about using our Heads, Hearts, Hands, and Health so let's celebrate when we do!
